What can we do with NFC Technology?
Sharing, pairing, and payments are the three basic uses of NFC.
Sharing, pairing, and payments are the three basic uses of NFC Technology.
The third use might be the most useful of all. Any mobile phone with an NFC chip might be easily configured as a credit or debit card allowing easy payments by just holding it close to the appropriate reader. However, NFC is not just a replacement for the credit card, with this technology many other cards can be configured on your NFC-enabled device, like a bus pass, library card, hotel key card, loyalty card, etc. Making your wallet much thinner. Even house keys might be replaced by NFC-enabled devices.
To pair two devices, we just need to hold them close to each other. Automatically, a Bluetooth or a Wi-Fi connection might be configured, or a file transferred between them, without needing any password, complex configurations, or device search.
For example, we can hold our NFC phone close to an NFC-enabled router to connect with it, forgetting about complex passwords, or to connect with an NFC-enabled speaker to play your favourite playlist from your NFC phone. Also, to connect with an NFC-enabled printer to print the pictures from our last holidays.
Talking about sharing, NFC technology is much simpler. For example, QR codes require a specific application that needs to be launched every time you want to read the code. With an NFC-enabled device, is only required to hold the device close to the NFC tag to read it. NFC tags are passive, which means, they do not have any power source. The tags get the required power from the reader device. This means no need for batteries and very low energy consumption. With the ABA NFC application, we can write NFC tags by ourselves with tasks like opening the website of your shop. Once the task is written on the tag, anyone who holds his NFC-enabled device close to the tag will visit your website. Or, for example, a tag located in our car that activates Bluetooth and GPS navigator when holding the phone close to the tag. Another tag located at the entrance of our house might connect the phone to the Wi-Fi, activate the Bluetooth and start playing our favourite playlist. These tags are cheap and can be purchased from our partner website.
